Aimee began being sweet to her mommy today. We hope that Feb. 16 will henceforth be known as Breakthrough Day.
Gayle remained in bed all day with food poisoning, and Aimee's attitude toward her warmed each time we came back to the room. This afternoon, without prompting, she walked over to Gayle, handed over the banana we'd bought her at the store and said, "Your banana." It may not sound like much, but a couple days ago she wouldn't go near Gayle without putting up a fight. Aimee carries with her a deep trauma involving "mama" that we may never fully grasp. We can only guess, and pray that God will heal it in His perfect timing.
Aimee and I went to the Guangzhou Zoo this morning. Not a great zoo, but it helped kill a couple hours. This afternoon we went for a long walk around the island, and then tonight she and I went with three other families to a great Italian restaurant about a 10-minute walk from our hotel.
Tomorrow morning is our medical appointment, and then Wednesday we go to the U.S. Consulate to get Aimee's visa. And then Friday morning, we leave China for home. That sounds more appealing with each passing day. I can't wait to get back to a place where you can walk without having the stench of raw sewage surprise you every few hundred yards.

Aimee giving her mommy a banana must have been the best medicine yet for Gayle to feel better....maybe a blessing in the illness gave Aimee a moment of seeing her mommy vulnerable and needing help...and the little one saw a way to help her......Give Gayle my love and prayers continue for the healing of your family....I can only imagine Alex and Abbey are counting the days until they get their parents back and their sister!! What a homecoming it shall be....:)
So sorry you've both been sick. And it sounds like Aimee's making progress. Can't wait to meet her. I think the kids had fun at Maddie's party yesterday. What was the name of the Italian resturant? I'm always looking for a new place.
We are so excited for you all and your growing family - and we are praying for you! Hope and pray that you will all feel well and really get to enjoy the incredible blessing of having one another. Hope to meet precious Aimee soon!
God bless you -

I didn't realize that Aimee was keeping her distance from Gayle. That hurts, I know. I will add that to my prayers for your family. & It sounds like there was a bit of a breakthrough today. What a sweetheart.
When you guys get home and Aimee sees the love that Abby and Alex have for their mama, it may help her to give Gayle a chance.
