I think we have the quote of the trip. I don't have much to add to it - but here it is: During one of Alex's first diaper changes, Abbey said, "Look mom, he has a noodle".
Okay -- moving on. .... So, we never found our passports and airline tickets, but everything is working out just fine. Our tickets have been re-issued, thanks to a family friend who used to work at United and calls from our parents. We should be able to get new passports issued in Guangzhou. Thankfully, we brought our birth certificates, copies of Abbey's papers etc...
The lessons have been that this has brought our marriage and our entire family closer together. It was most stressful yesterday afternoon when our hotel room kept getting smokier and smokier - both from outside pollution and people smoking in the hotel. So Tony asked that we be moved to a better room and we were moved last night. It makes a world of difference. Me, Abbey and Alex really aren't going to leave the hotel much at all here in Lanzhou because it is really smoky outside -- more than anything we have ever seen. There is no wind here and it is in a valley - plus everyone burns coal as the primary source of fuel. Anyway - thanks for your prayers and love and support.

We are so thrilled for you guys! Alex is adorable ~ he just looks so happy and sweet! & I laughed so hard at Abbey's "noodle" observation!
It looks like the most important things are going wonderfully in spite of all the problems you've encountered. We will continue to keep your family in our prayers.

Hey Guys!
We are checking the blog everyday and are thinking about you constantly. So sorry about the passports and tickets but so thankful that you have the parents to help out!! Noodle...that is pretty funny! Hey I just found pictures of Nathan, on a website from a group that did mission work at our orphanage. So now I have pics of Nathan from the month that our paperwork was sent to Ukraine. Isn't that cool. Almost exactly a year before we travled. I thought you might think that was pretty cool because of the pics you got of Alex before you arrived. I sure am going to be lifting up your lungs/breathing etc. now. How much longer are you in Luanzhou (sp?)
Love you so very much!!! And really can't wait to see you in the States. What a FUN FUN Christmas you are going to have!!!! Two babies in two years, man, you guys are SP's (Super Parents)

Good one Abbey!
Try to get a family photo and I'll put it on the FCC homepage! You'll have time since you are staying indoors. I'm sorry about the smoke, yuck. You'll be on your way to GZ soon to de-frost and get some "fresh-er" air.

Abbey is so smart!
Oh dear Thorntons - all 4 of you ...
How wonderful to be able to share these incredible days with you and know that we are all waiting with open arms to love on Abby and Alex. Tell Abby the Pez candy is waiting for her in Scott's refrigerator.
Big news at our house - Robbie is engaged. He and Kristin have been dating for a year - we love her and am excited about the new addition to our family - a daughter-in-law.
Hurry home and may the good Lord's arms smoother you all with love and messages of safety and blessedness.
Waiting .......

that is maybe the funniest quote i have ever heard. Even better than the imfamous 'you very powerful woman'. Hope all is well, and keep giving us those updates! And yes stay inside, let tony go out and get everything and search the city, the last thing we need is a sickly gayle and babies on our hands!
always
